Title: Stephen Bumgardner
File Attachment:
Attachment Type:

At his residence in West Lebanon, on Saturday, the 19th inst., Stephen Bumgardner, in his 37th year of age.

The subject of this brief notice came to this county in 1837, where he has since lived- excepting the three years while on the tented field as a soldier in the Union army. This sad occasion was improved in the presence of a large circle of friends and "brethen" in a neat and appropriate discourse by Dr. John L. Smith, in which the "earthly" and heavenly were fitly and forcibly represented, according to the hieroglyphical and symbolic language of the ancient and honorable fraternity, of "Free and Accepted Mason," of which Mr. Bumgardner was an acceptable member. At the close of the services-- at the church--the remains were taken in charge by the fraternity, and with the beautiful and solemn ritual of the Order, were quietly and gently laid away to rest in the family Cemetery, to await the morning when the trump of God and the voice of the arch-angle shall awake earth's sleeping generations.
