In our notice of the "girl's" festival, held in this place on Christmas Eve, we thought we were giving the managers thereof a handsome compliment for their well meant endeavors, and grand success.

It so happened that in the notice we penned the above paragraph to which our friends Gregory and Hudson take exceptions. We intended to offend nobody, and presumed we were doing an act of justice tothose who had gotten up the festivals at the M.E. church, for the last two winters previous to this. We had heard just what we stated above, expressed by some of the committee themselves, as to where the money went, and intimations were more than once given us that the proceeds of the festivals above spoken of, had never been properly and satisfactorily accounted for To The Committees. We did not complain of this as we were not personally interested in the affairs, further than that we spent several dollars upon each occasion, but in the haste of the moment we made mention of the facts as they were communicated to us, by several who served on the various committees pertaining thereto. Now, if we have offended anybody, we ask their pardon, but ask not to be condemned until our reasons are given for writing as we did. We have respect for the M.E. church in this place, as a society, and had not "malice aforethought" towards any human being when we wrote what we did. After all we think we did'nt miss the mark very far.
