Title: The Proposed Fifteenth Amendment
File Attachment:
Attachment Type:
Text:

Perhaps no act of Congress has been so much talked of, and so unmercifully dealt with by its enemies, as what is known as the Fifteenthe Amendment act. It has not yet become a law, however, and, in different sections of the country, Democratic politicians are nervously endeavoring to make it a political issue in certain elections. But they might as well attempt to plunge Mt. Vesuvius into the midst of the Atlantic Ocean as to make a hobby of this act to prevent its final ratification. A sanction of three-fourths of the States of this Union, settles this question forever. It must be ratified by twenty-seven States in order to become a law. Vermont is as sure as to do so, as to morrow's sun is to rise. Virginia, Mississippi, and Rhode Island, may be reconed as sure. So, in spite of democratic venom and secesh malice, the Fifteenth Amendment will pass. In the name of justice and humanity it ought to pass. The dignity of the Americann Government, demands its passage. Humanity everywhere calls, and calls, loudly for the suppression of the superstitious relies which exist as memorials of past ages when might was considered right, and brute force was the prevailing law. And the time is near at hand.
