Title: Enlarge the Public Square

Text:

Now, that Mr. Gregory has torn down his brick house on the hill side north of the square, we suggest the nicety and the propriety of the public square being extended so as to take in the four lots on the hill side. The street betwen these lots and the public sqaure is of no possible utility, and the lots named are not suitable ones for building on, but would, if added to the square, and all inclosed together, form, under proper improvement, one of the finest little Parks imaginable. Then when we build a new court house let it be set upon the brow of the hill, overlooking the public grounds, and the old town, and it will present an very fine appearance. Besides all this, the beautiful locust grove now standing on the hill side would afford a very desirable plac for pic nics, and public speakings, which alone is a desideratum of no little importance. Citizens, think of these suggestions. Talk about them, and lay the matter before the board of commissioners. The lots are in all probability of easy access, and if these suggestions can be carried out and accomplished, it would be a big thing for our town and country.
