Title: Gravel Road
File Attachment:
Attachment Type:

The West Lebanon Gravel Road is meeting with considerable opposition from the land holders along the line. Many of them were here on last Tuesday for the purpose of organizing themselves into a company to effect a more thorough resistance against taxation for that purpose. The tax would fall pretty heavy upon several of our best citizens who think their present taxes high enough. If West Lebanon was an impertant town, and a princijpjal point for trade; it might be advisable to build the road, but as it is, it is doubtful whether our citizens above referred to should be compelled to build it against their will. We are decidedly in favor of good roads when the people are willing to make them, but the voice of the people should determine this matter.
