Title: Sad Occurrence
File Attachment:
Attachment Type:

On last Saturday night, near State Line City in this county, one of the saddest occurrences took place which we may have been called upon to chronicle for many weeks. The facts in the case as we learn are as follows: There was an apple paring at the house of one Clem, to which the young folks of the neighborhood had been invited, with the exception of one young Beckett, who went withour an invitation.- We believe there was an old feud existing between the families of Clem and Beckett, hence young Beckett was not invited but was ordered to leave. Insulted at this, he left, but secreted himself along the side road where he supposed young Clem would pass that evening. When Clem came up, Beckett threatened to whip hmi, whereupon Clem alighted from his horse, and in the scuffle which ensued, young Beckett was terribly cut by Clem and died the following Monday night.- The affair created great excitement in the neighborhood in which it occurred.

We have told this tale just as it was related to us, and we doubt not, is substantially correct.
