Title: Eleazer Purviance

Text:

Died, Nov., 22, after a short illness, at the residence of John C. Lincoln, our beloved father, Eleazer Purviance, in the 88th year of his age.

That fortitude and resignation that characterized him through life, was exhibited in death; although the conflict between life and death was hard; yet he died without a groan. He was a kind and affectionate father, an obliging friend and neighbor; he was loved and esteemed most by those who knew him best. Having a remembrance of our father for more than forty years, I never remember of seeing him angry, or seldom frustrated.--He survived our sainted mother for nearly thrity one years, but now he rests by her side, there to sleep until the resurrection morn; when Christ shall come to make up His jewels. Though we are deprived of seeing that loved form, we have been so long accustomed to see, yet we sorrow not at those who have no hope.

"Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, yea said the spirit, for they rest from their labors and their works do follow them."

Rest dear father, thy work is done,
Until the Lord shall come,
To bring thee with Himself to reign,
In Heaven thy promised home.
