Title: Our New Depot
File Attachment:
Attachment Type:

Much credit is due Toledo, Wabash, & Western Railway Company, for their energy in pushing forward the various kins of work which tend to the comfort and convenience of the traveling public.-They have many large and elegant passenger depots at various points, and are now building a $60,000 dollar house at Springfield, Ills. Even at small towns they are rapidly multiplying station houses-good comfortable, durable buildings.

But we took up our quill to speak more particularly of the depot just completed at our place. It is a neat structure, but built upon a site naturally infavorable, but the company has beautifully remedied the natural defects by artificial means. A plank walk, elevated, perhaps, eighteen inches above the truck, along the side upon which begins the declivity to the "Falls," and for a distance of two hundred yards, is built, along which, to the left, extends a ballustrade which entirely prevents persons from taking the direction towards the falls, and thus securing them from danger. This station house will soon be placed under the management of an eificient agent, whose duty it will be to be present at the arrival and departure of all trains-issue tickets, check baggage, &C,. &C.
