Title: The Thing as it was
File Attachment:
Attachment Type:
Text:

Some days since a report was prevalent in this vicinity that one young Hodge had died in consequence of an excessive beating given him by one Ira Brown. The report is altogether false; and the facts concerning the whipping affair, are about these. Mr. Brown and the said young Hodge being at the same time at the hotel in this place, Brown missed a pair of mittens he had lain down, and on learning that young Hodge had stolen them, he (Brown) pursued him, and upon overhauling him, and finding the mittens in the boy's possession, gave him a good sound threshing, as the boy deserved. May it prove a salutary lesson to him.
