Title: Construction of the I N & S on the Herr, Etchison farm starts
File Attachment:
Attachment Type:

Last Monday Mr. Poole with his men began the work of construction of the I N & S on the Herr, Etchison farm a short distance below town. His force was small, 12 to 15 men, because of the short time he had to prepare after learning how the contracts would be awarded. Carpenters are putting up shanties along the line for use of the workmen. Mr. Batchelor, engineer of the Attica division, reports that the line from here to Chambersburg would be considered extra good by railroad men. The heaviest grade he has yet to report is 37 feet to the mile, which is very good, while curvature is light. Billy Green contracted last night to furnish beef for from 150 to 300 men and they have been telegraphed to come on. Sam Hunter furnishes the bread.
