Title: New Jail Now Operational
File Attachment:
Attachment Type: image
Text:

The newly constructed Warren County Jail is now open and has been housing inmates since Thursday, Dec. 23rd. Staff members have been undergoing training for the new facility which is much different to operate than the old jail.

The security system inside the Warren County Jail is the most advanced in the state at this time. Door locks must be released from the control center by one of the jailers on duty to allow anyone to pass, although some doors can be opened by key, but may not be opened by key from inside.

Security cameras have been placed strategically throughout the new facility to give jailers a clear viewof who is being let in or out of the areas.

The control center offers a direct line vision to the cells and mirrors have been installed to allow vision in any "blind spots" for the split level cells.

Sheriff Don Moyars said that they 12 inmates who were being housed in the old jail were relocated to the new jail on Thursday. Staff members are still in the process of moving a few items into the jail and settling in to the new facility.

The Sheriff says the move went better than expected, although there are still a few "bugs" to be worked out. Meanwhile workmen continue to work on finishing a few things, such as painting in some areas.

The old jail will eventually be torn down to make way for a parking lot. An open house for the new jail be being planned for sometime in March to allow the public to tour our new facility.

[Caption:] CONTROL CENTER
Designed somewhat like a fishbowl, the control center allows jail staff to have a direct vision of inmates and anyone else who signals to be let in or out of various areas of the new jail. Eric Smith (pictured)shows the panel and video monitors installed in the control center. Open doors are indicated by a light on the control panel. The light is extinguished when the door is secured once again.
