Ray Steele, 91, of Highland Ct., Oxford, passed away at 6 a.m., July 12 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He had been failing in health since February.

He was born at Oxford. reared and educated at Oxford and Pine Village and a 1911 graduate of Pine Village High School. He was a life long resident of the Oxford and Pine Village areas. In 1917, he was married near Pine Village to Ella J. McCord, who died in 1978.

Mr. Steele worked as a carpenter with his father for several years, and farmed south of Pine Village, retiring in 1965. After his retirement, he was a self-employed carpenter and harness-maker.

He was a member of the Pine Village Christian Church, an active member of Indiana Gold Medal Colt Club, and a former member of Warren County Fair Board.

Surviving are three sons, Ray W. Steele of Cassville, Mo., McCord Steele of Rt.4, Attica and Edmund C. Steele of Huntsville, Ohio; three sisters, Nora Eberly of Pine Village, Marguerite Brown of Lafayette and Irene Booth of Boswell; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services were July 14 at the Pine Village Christian Church with Gene Polf officiating. Interment at Justus Cemetary. Konzelman-Hahn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
