Concerning the death of Prof. J. A. Shannon in the Fowler wreck the 19th inst. the DeSmet New, of Kingsbury county, S. Dak., where deceased taught at one time, says:-

"Amoung the fifteen who were killed in the collision on the Big Four railroad near Fowler, Ind., was Prof. J. A. Shannon of Chicago, who a number of years ago was principal of the DeSmet graded school.

Prof. Shannon was one of the best teachers DeSmet ever had. He was highly educated and his life has been devoted to teaching. DeSmet friends sympathize with the wife and children who 'in a twinkle of an eye' are left without husband or father."
