Title: Wabash River
File Attachment:
Attachment Type:

The Wabash river from the late rains was the highest last Monday for years. The backwater covered the levee to the Attica bridge seven feet, and it was feared it would be washed out. It is reported that the levee at the Independence bridge on the Fountain county side is gone.

The levee south of Attica protecting the Carmichael, Young and Arms places broke last Monday morning, making a gap of 100 feet, inundating 600 acres of land. All efforts to protect the levee against the rising waters were useless. No serious damage is anticipated.
