Honorable James McCabe. One of the most conspicuos members of the Warren County Bar was the Hon. James McCabe, who was a strong intellectual lawyer and lived in Williamsport and practiced law for fifty years. He was judge of the Supreme Court of Indiana from 1893 to 1899, and measured up to the great position. He was a splendid example of the success that may be accomplished by intelligent industry and perseverance. He distinguished himself as a writer of legal opionions. He left the Supreme bench with a splendid record for industry and the production of intelligent, conservative, wellbalanced opionions, none of which were overruled, but added strength and character to the decisions of the Supreme Court. His election to the Supreme Court, on the Democratic ticket, from a small county with a two-to-two Republican majority against him, was conclusive proof of his strength and popularity and influnce with his party throughout the state.
