Died at his home in Williamsport, Ind., May 31st, 1892, John Long, aged 76 years, 3 months and 24 days. He was born near Adelphi, Ross Co., Ohio, Sept. 6, 1815. In the year 1828, he with his parents moved to Foutain County, Ind., and settled one mile north of Convington. When the family took the journey far across the country to this state, he at the age of thirteen years drove a six-horse team for his father. In 1831, he returned to Ohio, and was married to Miss Ellen Long, returning to his home on horse back with his bride. Six children blessed this union, four of whom are living. After the death of his wife in 1851, he was married to Elizabeth J. Colelayer, who survives him. Five children are living as the result of this union. He leaves a wife, nine children, twenty-four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In the year 1870 he hauled the stone for building the courthouse on the hill near the old Presbyterian Church. The deceased was brought up by Christian parents and baptized in his infancy, his father being an elder in the Presbyterian Church of Convington, Ind. He was a quiet, home loving man, a kind, indulgent husband and father. He died in a Christian faith, before his death expressing his faith and hope in Christ as his Savior. "So He giveth the beloved sleep."
