Alton Spencer, a former resident of this county, died of consumption at his home near Fowler last Friday. The funeral services were held at the Carbondale M. E. Church Monday, after which interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. To the bereaved, we extend sympathies. Mrs. Scott Hitchens, a former resident of this place for about fifteen years and well and favorably known here, died at her home in Toledo, O., Friday, Sept. 9th, 1892 of heart failure. She was the daughter-in-law of Elisha Hitchens of this place and the wife of Scott Hitchens, well known here. As is generally ther case with those troubles, her death was sudden and unexpected. Obituary. Wiley Hewitt passes to his long home Wednesday, Sep. 7th, 1892 at five o'clock a.m., after a year of patient suffering from that dread disease, consumption, at his home in Rainsville, and was laid to rest in the Rainsville Cemetery. The subject of this sketch was born June 8th, 1836 and attained the good age of 56 years, 2 months and 29 days. He and his wife were both born in Ohio, and both came to Indiana at an early age. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Creamer, April 11th, 1870. Twelve children blessed this union, six of which are left to cheer a mother's lonely hours and the other six stood on the shining shore to welcome the papa's coming. He took part in the Civil War, being one of the lucky ones who lived to return to be a blessing and a comfort to his loved ones. Deceased was a farmer as long as his health would permit. He was a man of good qualities that mark one as a just, upright and truthful citizen. But he has gone forever, where the rest of the family, who have the sympathy of the entire neighborhood, may prepare to meet him.
