Suicide In Attica. Miss Nannie Ray Grows Tired of Life And Ends All By Hanging. The citizens of the usually quiet city were furnished a genuine surprise Monday morning by the awful intelligence that Miss Nannie Ray, the daughter of John L. Ray, well known throughout this and Fountain County as the pioneer school teacher and sister of Arch E. Ray, of the above place, had committed suicide by hanging. Miss Ray was about twenty-eight or thirty years of age and lived with her father, mother and sister in the southeast part of the city and was an exemplary young lady and no cause can be given for her sad act. The sister of Miss Ray was absent from home on a visit, and Miss Ray, after writing a number of letters Sunday in which none of them give a hint that she had any intention of suiciding, retired to her bed upstairs as usual, and nothing unusual was ovserved by the rest of the family until she did not respond to the call for breakfast Monday morning. Upon entering her room the mother was horrified to find the body of her daughter, hanging by a trunk strap, one end of which had been fastened to the door knob on the outside, and the other end passed over the top of the door and made fast about the neck, cold in death. Medical aid was summoned, but life had long been extinct from strangulation, the indications being that the hanging had taken place early in the evening before. No cause whatever can be assigned for Miss Ray's mysterious action, as she seemed in the best of spirits the day previous, and was always highly esteemed and respected. the blow is indeed a hard one to the aged parents who have the sympathies of the entire community. Rumor has it that Miss Ray was engaged to a prominent young man of this county.
