Iverson Benson, a former resident of this place, died at his home is Des Moines, Iowa, Tuesday morning. Mr. Benson had been in poor health for sometime. Mrs. Mollie Hegler of Attica died at her home in the above place last Friday one week ago from cancer after a long and tedious illness. Mrs. Caroline Gibson, aged 43 years, 6 months and 7 days, departed this life for the better land July 7th, 1893. She was born in Boone County, Indiana in 1850. She was united in marriage in 1873 and was the mother of two children, Nelson and Bertha. The cause of her death was heart trouble. She died quite suddenly, having felt all right when she went to bed. She died at 3 o'clock in the morning. The bereaved husband and children have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community. The funeral of Robert Mitchell, one of Fountain County's oldest citizens, took place at Veedersburg from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed Patton last Sunday. Mr. Mitchell was a lifelong Mason and was buried by the order. On the Fourth, Miss Mary Gowland, aged about 18 years, and living in Goodland, met with a terrible death at that place. A large company had assembled on the depot platform and was waiting for the arrival of the train, which was to carry them to Kentland. As the train pulled in at 10:15 a.m., Miss Gowland was walking with a companion leisurely along the platform very near its edge, when a projecting part of the engine struck her. She was instantly hurled upon the track and before the train could be stopped, two coaches had passed over her, cutting off an arm, a leg and otherwise fearfully bruising her. She was picked up and carried to her father's house where she died about 2 o'clock in the afternoon. -Fowler Review
