Phoebe A. Marlatt nee Shields, was born in Fountain County, Indiana, Sept. 30th, 1834, and died at her home near this place January 26th, 1894, after a two weeks' illness from heart trouble, aged 59 years, 3 months and 26 days. She was married to John Marlatt, Sept. 4th, 1862 and has been for a number of years a resident of this county.
The funeral services were held from the family residence northwest of this place Sunday morning, conducted by the Rev. Wm Wilmer, after which interment took place in Beulah Cemetery in Fountain County. Mrs. Marlatte was a member of the Presbyterian Church from her youth.
The subject of this sketch was born in Claremont County, Ohio, Ja. 3rd, 1828 and removed with her parents, George and Elizabeth Nodurft, to this county in 1829, where she lived until death relieved her of her sufferings.
She was married to George Lloyd, February 14th, 1847, and bore five children, four of whom survive her-Mrs. Mary Miller, Mrs. Jane Mehaffey, Mrs. Emma Smith and Mrs. Martha Cole. She was left a widow in 1864, remaining so until 1867, when she became the wife of George Pence, bearing one child, George L.
She united with the Church of God in the 14th year of her age, and was a consistent member until death. She died of consumption, Jan. 20th, 1894, being 66 years and 17 days of age.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jakes at 2 o'clock, p.m., at the Jordan Church after which interment was made in the Jordan Cemetery.
