As it pleases God in His mightiness to cause the flowers to spring and live a short time, shedding brightness and pleasure to those who surround them, bloom, fade and then die, so it is witht the life, amid suffering and fifficulties and then die to have their bloom in a better land. Such has been the life of our baby, little Orestes Dick. Little Orestes Dick was born March 24th, 1895 and was the only son of W.C. and Jessie Dick. He lived a short life of only 20 days, and died April 12, 1895. He was a great sufferer almost from the day of his birth and all was done for him that medical aid and skill could do but God had called him that he might have His bloom in Heaven. The funeral discourse was preached by Rev. Eli Myers at Carbondale Church April 14th at 10:30 a.m. The remains were interred in the cemetery at that place. Rebecca Calton was born May 21st, 1856 and departed this life at her home in Inpendence, April 23d, 1895, aged 38 years, 11 months and 2 days. She was united in marriage to J. W. Clearwater, who died April 17th, 1887, since which time she has been a widow. About the age of 21 years she united with the U.B. Church at Independence and moving from there to Stark County, Ind., and there being no U.B. Church there, she took her letter to the Christian Church, where she lived for several years, when she agian moved back to Independence, she bringing her letter back to the U.B. Church, where she lived up to the time of her death. She has been a devout Christian and in her last moments she said the angels had come for her and she was going away to live with Jesus. She leaves a mother, four children, four sisters and one brother and many friends to mourn her loss. Her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery one mile northwest of Independence, Rev. A. F. Surface officiating.
