From a recent letter recieved by P. W. Lewis we learn of the death of Peter Laberdee of Indian Territory, who was a former resident of Warren Township, this county, and for many years, a prominent citizen of Independence. Mr. Laberdee was born in Canada and was of French decent, as his name indicates. He married the daughter of Zachariah Cicott, whose wife was an Indian and who heired a large tract of land, which was a part of the Cicott reservation near Independence. Peter left this county in 1852 with the Miami tribe of Indians when they were moved to Kansas by the government. Later, he located with his family on a large tract of land 15 miles south of Baxter Springs just over the line, where he lived until his death. While in this county MR. Laberdee was a plasterer by trade, P. W. Lewis being an apprentice under him. His wife died about four years ago and he leaves to his four children about 1500 acres of the best land of the territory. WIlliam Hickman, one of Pine Townships old and respected citizens, died at his home in Rainsville Saturday night. He had been complaining for some time but was not thought to be dangerous. The funeral services and burial took place Monday.
