Mrs. Martha J. Roseberry, wife of Dr. Roseberry of Independence, after a brave struggle for life for many months, departed this life last Sunday, aged 66 years, 3 months and 15 days. She was a sister of Mrs. H. C. Johnson of this place, Mrs. Lydia Miller, and the late Miss Retta Tebbs of Marshfield. Miss Tebbs' funeral and interment occurred yesterday at 10 o'clock a.m., at the Baptist Church in Independence and interment was made here in Hillside Cemetery. Elias Ellenburger, an inmate of the county asylum, died on the 8th inst. from old age. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1817, and at his death was 83 years old. He was a widower but has not relatives here. In his younger days, he was a blacksmith by trade Remains were taken on Wednesday, May 9th, 1900, by undertakers Correll & Boyd to Mound Township where interment was made in Mound cemetery. In the death of Elias Ellenburger, inmate of county Asylum, Dr. Jones, the attending physician, failed to issue a permit to the undertakers, Correll & Boyd, as required by law. Correll & Boyd could not hold the body and went ahead and buried. Dr. Jones still failing to comply with the law, the Secretary of the county oard of health had him arrested. The case was set for trial last Tuesday, but was continued on account of the small pox. Dr. Jones is liable under the law to a fine of $10 to $100, and so is the firm of Correll & Boyd, but they were promised the permit and expected Dr. Jones to furnish it in good season to enable them to comply with the law. No one Blames Correll & Boyd.
