Leroy, the infant son of Hull and Laura Lemen, living on Midway, this place, died Wednesday, May 16, 1900, from lung fever after an illness of only a few hours, aged 4 months and 18 days. Funeral services were held at the residence Thursday, May 17th, Rev. George H. Clarke officiating. Interment was made in Hillside Cemetery. Mrs. Martha J. Roseberry. Deceased was born at Harrison, O., January 28, 1834, and died in Independence, Ind., May 13, 1900, aged 66 years, 3 months and 16 days. She was married to Dr. I. A. Roseberry January 29, 1859, at Williamsport, Ind. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Roseberry lived in Ohio until 1878, when they returned to Indiana and settled at Independence where they have lived ever since. From her earliest day, Mrs. Roseberry was religiously inclined. For almost half a century she was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was actively engaged in the general work of the church and in a special way rendered valuable assistance in the Sunday school, where she was for years an efficient teacher. Her influence in the church and Sunday school will be greatly missed. Mrs. Roseberry was a faithful companion to her husband, assisting him loyally in his efforts to make a home and lay a good foundation for a life of happiness. Their ambitions were about realized and they were about to enter into the enjoyment of the happy period for which they toiled so many years, when death came and called one away. It was like the losing of a prize that had been earned and was just ready to be grasped. Mrs. Roseberry preserved her faith in God and her hope of eternal life to the last. She arranged the plans for her funeral service and burial as calmly as though arranging for a little journey to a neighboring city. Such indeed it was. Her life and latest testimonies give her friends ground to believe that she has only gone away a little while, to visit another city-the City whose maker and builder is God.
